Chiltern Railways are advising customers travelling during the Euro 2020 football tournament to plan ahead as key fixtures are taking place at Wembley Stadium.
The month-long tournament, which starts on June 11, will see several matches played at Wembley Stadium, with services to/from Wembley on and around Sunday 13 June and Friday 18 June match days expected to be especially busy as England are playing.
The train operator will be providing, on average, 8,500 additional seats for each Euro game in order to maximise space for social distancing onboard. However, customers are advised that social distancing may not always be possible. Customers are also reminded that they should plan ahead, check their journey before setting off and allow themselves extra time as there will be an amended timetable in operation and a queuing system in place at Wembley Stadium station.
On Sunday 13 June (England v Croatia fixture) Chiltern will be providing longer trains to/from Wembley. In order to facilitate this, rail replacement buses will be in operation on various routes between 1600 – 2200. This will impact customers travelling along the Metropolitan line to/from Aylesbury and also Kings Sutton, Monks Risborough, Little Kimble, Hatton and Lapworth stations. Customers are advised to check their journey before travelling.
Matches are being played at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 13 June, Friday 18 June, Tuesday 22 June, Tuesday 6 July, Wednesday 7 July and Sunday 11 July and customers are advised that services on these days will be busier than usual.
Eleni Jordan, Commercial and Customer Strategy Director for Chiltern Railways said: “We’re very excited that some EURO 2020 games are taking place on our route and we’re working closely with other train operators, Network Rail and UEFA to ensure that customers can travel safely to games taking place at Wembley. We have strengthened our services to accommodate fans while trying to maintain social distancing measures, but this may not always be possible as we expect our services to be very busy. Customers should plan in advance and check the Chiltern website or download the app for the latest timetabling information.”
Customers are advised to:
- Travel during quieter times where possible,
- Go online or download the Chiltern app to access the latest information and to book tickets,
- Use contactless payments and avoid paying with cash in stations,
- Keep a safe distance from passengers and staff in stations and onboard trains,
- Wear face coverings at stations and onboard public transport unless exempt,
- Regularly wash your hands before and after your journey,
- Please stay home if you feel unwell.
