Chiltern Railways wins award for excellent employee engagement at UK quality awards

Chiltern Railways were recently announced as winners of the 2019 British Quality Foundation (BQF) Award for Excellence in Employee Engagement.

The award acknowledges organisations that have demonstrated how they harness the talents and creativity of their staff, helping to make their organisation a better place to work. The other shortlisted companies included Adecco Group, National Express (UK Bus and UK Coach), Safemove and Involvement Packaging.

The Chiltern Edge, a programme designed to improve employee engagement, proved pivotal to the win. The programme includes a Health and Wellbeing programme for employees, Platform C – an internal intranet which is updated with news from across the company regularly, Yammer - a platform where employees across the business can post updates and engage with other employees and Chiltern’s ongoing charity work.

BQF is an independent not-for-profit membership organisation which represents excellence and performance improvement in the UK. The UK Excellence Award is one of the highest accolades an organisation can achieve. Since it’s launch in 1994, the award has recognised numerous organisations, all of whom have demonstrated excellence in all areas of operation.

Jamie Green, Business Improvement Manager at Chiltern Railways said: “We are delighted to be the only business to have won Excellence awards for two years  running, picking up the Customer Excellence award last year and then the Excellence in People Engagement this year. It was a fantastic team effort, led by our HR Director, Rebecca Ward. I am incredibly proud of this as it’s a reflection on the high levels of quality at Chiltern.”
