Commonwealth Games 2022 Travel Information

Travelling on the Train during the Games

During the Commonwealth Games, trains will be busier than normal, especially on Game routes just before and just after an event. To help you have a smooth and more comfortable journey, check out our latest train travel advice below.

There is limited space for bikes on trains and, whilst we would normal welcome people with bikes onto services, during the games trains will be very busy. Having bikes on services will mean fewer people can travel so we would ask people to leave their bikes at home.

Book in Advance before you travel

We advise you to plan your journey and check before you travel. Head over to the journey planner to book your trip. Alternatively, you can use the Chiltern Railways app where you can buy and store your tickets on the go.

If you have tickets for the events, you are able to travel with your event ticket within the Network West Midlands transport boundary (see the interactive map in link). Please note that if you are travelling to and from outside of the boundary, you will still need to purchase a valid rail ticket.

Timetables

Our priority during the Commonwealth Games is to get you to your destination as smoothly and efficiently as possible so we will be running more trains than usual to help with capacity. To view the timetables for each day please visit the changes to timetable page and select the day you are travelling on to view the timetable.

Booking Passenger Assistance

If you are planning on travelling with Chiltern Railways and other rail operators, you can now request assistance up to 2 hours ahead of your journey, any time of the day by dialling 03456 005 165 (selecting option 3 then option 3 again) for more information about Passenger Assist and how to request assistance via Passenger Assist, please visit the National Rail Enquiries website.

If passengers are deaf, hard of hearing or speech impaired, they can use the Relay UK app and request 03456 005 165 (selecting option 3 then option 3 again).

Please note that you can always simply “turn up and go” without booking assistance in advance, or if you have made an online booking that has not yet been confirmed. We will provide assistance to get you to your destination.

Please note that Warwick does not have step free access. If you need to travel to Warwick and require step-free access, please alight at Leamington Spa where there will be a shuttle bus to take you to Warwick.
