We've put together some FAQs which will help explain why this change is happening.

  • Q1) Why has Chiltern Railways increased car park tariffs?
    • The revenue generated by car parking helps us to maintain and manage our car parks, it allows us to fund a repairs and maintenance program, along with investments in new facilities.

We are also aligning the cost to park across the three car parks at Gerrards Cross which will simplify the tariff. The cost to park at Oxford Parkway has also been aligned with other car parks in the local area.

We know that this increase may be significant for some of our customers, and we are working hard to ensure that we provide value for money and suitable facilities for all.

  • Q2) What investments will you be making?
    • We are committing to £3.8m of investment over the next 12 months which will include reinstating the Upper car park deck at Haddenham & Thame Parkway along with the re-opening of the lower car park at Bicester North. Repairs are being made to damaged car park surfaces, and we are also re-lining car parks at multiple locations.

  • Q3) How much are the increases?
    • The average increase for our most popular Peak tariff will be 4.6%, which is linked with the regulated rail fare rise in March 2025; however, the increases vary by station and different session types (Peak, Off-peak and season tickets).

Whilst the Off -Peak tariff increase is greater; these sessions offer a 30% reduction compared to a Peak  tariff. Season tickets still offer the best value for frequent car park users.

A weekly season tariff is the same cost as 4 Peak sessions but is valid for 7 days.

A monthly season tariff is the same costs as 16 Peak sessions but is valid for 28-31 days.

A yearly season tariff is the same cost as 168 Peak sessions but is valid for 364 days.

  • Q4) Will the increases apply to all stations?
    • The increases will affect all our station car parks, except for Bicester North and Haddenham & Thame Parkway. These stations will have no price rises due to the upcoming project works which may cause some impact on the day-to-day parking arrangements at these stations.

  • Q5) When will the car park tariff increases come into effect?
    • These increases are effective from 28 July 2025.
  • Q6)  Does this apply to all car parking tariffs, including off-peak and season tickets?
    • Yes, the increase applies to peak time, off-peak, daily, weekly, monthly, and annual car park season tickets. There are also changes to some evening- only parking offers.
  • Q7) Why are you removing the evening-only tariff?
    • This option will no longer be available after 28 July 2025. The evening tariff was introduced after the pandemic when car parks were quieter and was only available after 18:00 by paying by RingGo.
  • Q8)Are rail fares increasing at the same time?
    • No, this change only applies to the cost to park at the car parks that we manage.
  • Q9) Will this increase affect Blue badge holders?
    • No. Blue Badge holders can still park at stations free of charge. If you do intend to park at the station using a blue badge, please register your blue badge with station staff, via the APCOA Blue Badge Permit Portal or with our customer relations before you travel.
  • Q10) Will these increases affect the short stay and drop off time period (currently 20 minutes)?
    • No. There are no changes to short -stay/drop off parking sessions, these will remain free of charge (up to 20 minutes).
  • Q11) Are there any increases to motorcycle parking?
    • No, this will remain free of charge in the designated bays.
