Chiltern Railways give advice for commuters during Oxford closure next month

There will be some improvement work between 7 to the 22 July in the Oxford area

Chiltern Railways is warning that services from Oxford Parkway will be busier than normal between 07th July and 22nd July 2018 because of track improvement work around Oxford.

The Network Rail improvement work will modernise the existing 1960s signalling and track layout to make train services in the Oxford area more reliable.
Oxford Parkway will be a popular alternative and customers are advised to allow extra time for travel.

The operator also expects stations such as Banbury, Bicester Village, Bicester North and Haddenham & Thame Parkway will also be busier than normal.

Alan Riley, Customer Services Director at Chiltern Railways:  “To continue to improve our railways, engineering work sometimes needs to take place over longer periods.
“Our customers may experience busier than normal journeys during this period especially on services to and from Oxford Parkway.  We have added as many extra carriages as possible and we will have extra customer ambassadors at stations.”

Great Western Railway customers can use their train tickets to travel from Chiltern Railways stations but will need to pay for parking, which is £2 all day in both the Park and Ride and in the Chiltern car park.

Chiltern Railways has also worked with Oxford Bus Company to provide an enhanced rail replacement service between Oxford and Oxford Parkway.  Rail tickets will be valid on the rail replacement service between Oxford and Oxford Parkway.

For convenience and the best price, customers are advised to buy tickets before they travel by visiting chilternrailways.co.uk or via the Chiltern Railways App.
