Chiltern Railways has announced that the upcoming May 2018 timetable will feature artwork by some of the most talented young artists in Oxfordshire.

The railway company is a sponsor of the 11th annual Young Art Oxford competition, which involves students from over 40 schools in Oxfordshire, and will culminate in an exhibition at the prestigious Ashmolean Museum from 10-12 May.

Along with encouraging the talents of young artists from any year between reception and Year 9, the competition also offers the opportunity for children to help other children their age who suffer from serious illness by raising money for Cancer Research UK.

The theme of the 2018 competition is ‘Journeys’, and winners will also have the chance to have their art featured on the covers of Chiltern’s May 2018 timetables, which will be seen by thousands of customers travelling on the entire Chiltern route between London Marylebone, Birmingham, Oxford and Aylesbury. Winners will also receive two one-day family travel passes for travel anywhere along the route.

Alan Riley, Customer Services Director for Chiltern Railways, said:

“We are delighted to partner with Young Art Oxford to encourage the creativity of the talented youngsters who live and study along our line and help raise money for such a worthwhile cause.”

Sarah Stoddart, Chair of Young Art Oxford, said:

“We are absolutely delighted that Chiltern Railways have agreed to sponsor Young Art Oxford 2018 and support our mission to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK while encouraging children to express themselves through art. Our theme for the competition this year is 'Journeys', thus making the collaboration a particularly apt one.”

The deadline for entries is 20th February and all the details can be found at www.youngartoxford.com.
