Upcoming engineering - check how your journey will be affected

Saturday 14th - Sunday 15th September

What's happening?

Due to Network Rail engineering works in the Haddenham & Thame Parkway area, together with high speed rail preparation works at West Ruislip, the line between Marylebone and Bicester is closed at multiple locations. 

Who will be affected?

A heavily-amended timetable will operate on all Chiltern Railways routes, and most journeys will be affected. The amended route map can be seen here.

Amended Train Times:

What service will operate?

Chiltern Railways train services will operate as follows (in both directions):

  • 1 per hour Oxford - Banbury - stations to Birmingham Moor Street.
  • 1 per hour Bicester North - Banbury - stations to Birmingham Moor Street.
  • 2 per hour Oxford - stations to Bicester Village.
  • 2 per hour Gerrards Cross - stations to Princes Risborough (1 per hour)/Aylesbury (1 per hour).
  • Periodic service Leamington Spa - stations to Stratford Upon Avon.
  • Periodic service Leamington Spa - stations to Birmingham Moor Street.
  • 2 per hour Marylebone - Aylesbury Vale Parkway (via Amersham).
  • 2 per hour Marylebone - Aylesbury (via Amersham).

Rail Replacement bus services will operate as follows (in both directions):

  • 2 per hour Aylesbury Vale Parkway - Bicester Village.
  • 1 per hour Aylesbury Vale Parkway - Bicester North.
  • 1 per hour Princes Risborough - stations to Bicester North.
  • 2 per hour High Wycombe - Amersham.
  • 2 per hour Gerrards Cross - stations to West Ruislip (London Underground connections).
  • Arriva 280 scheduled service Haddenham & Thame Parkway - Aylesbury.

Advice to customers

All journeys will be impacted and journey times will be much longer than usual. Please allow plenty of time for your journey and be advised that customers may need to travel with other operators, on rail replacement buses, and/or on London Underground services.

Monday 16th - Thursday 19th September

What's happening?

Late-night engineering works in the Haddenham & Thame Parkway area mean that an amended northbound timetable will operate after 22:00, with some services replaced by buses for part of the journey. In particular, please carefully note the following alterations:

  • The 23.20 Marylebone - Banbury is CANCELLED.
  • The 00.01 Marylebone - Oxford is CANCELLED.
  • The 00.05 Marylebone - Banbury terminates at Princes Risborough, with connecting rail replacement buses forward to Haddenham & Thame Parkway, Bicester Village, Oxford Parkway, Oxford, Bicester North and Banbury.

Sunday 22nd September

What's happening?

Network Rail engineering works mean that the line through Beaconsfield is closed all day.

Who will be affected?

A heavily-amended timetable will operate on all Chiltern Railways routes, and most journeys will be affected. The amended route map can be seen here.

Amended Train Times for Sunday 22nd September:

What service will operate?

Chiltern Railways train services will operate as follows (in both directions):

  • 1 per hour Marylebone - Bicester North - Banbury - stations to Birmingham Moor Street (diverted via Aylesbury).
  • 1 per hour High Wycombe - stations to Birmingham Moor Street.
  • 2 per hour High Wycombe - stations to Oxford.
  • Periodic service Leamington Spa - stations to Stratford Upon Avon.
  • Periodic service Leamington Spa - stations to Birmingham Moor Street.
  • 2 per hour Marylebone - Aylesbury Vale Parkway (via Amersham).
  • 1 per hour Marylebone - Aylesbury (via Amersham).

  • 2 per hour Aylesbury Vale Parkway - Bicester Village.
  • 2 per hour High Wycombe - Amersham.
  • 4 per hour High Wycombe - stations to Hillingdon/West Ruislip (London Underground connections).
  • 1 per hour Princes Risborough - stations to Aylesbury.

Monday 23rd - Thursday 16th September

What's happening?

Due to Network Rail engineering works in the Wembley Stadium area, an amended timetable will operate after 23.20. Late night services between Marylebone and stations to Banbury and Oxford via High Wycombe will be subject to alteration and rail replacement bus operation for all or part of the journey. During this period, journey times will be longer than usual.
