Looking for the perfect balance between value and flexibility? Off-Peak tickets are significantly cheaper than Anytime fares but, unlike our Advance single tickets, they don’t tie you to a specific train time.

Off-Peak gives you the freedom to travel on any valid service within the off-peak window. With an off-Peak Day Return ticket, you can travel back at any time outside the peak period that day, while for Off Peak Return tickets, you can travel back at any time outside the peak period within a month of the outward journeys.

Why choose an Off-Peak Train Ticket?

  • Off-peak train tickets are cheaper
Enjoy lower fares by avoiding the busiest commuter periods.
  • Super flexible
Buy your ticket online or at the station right before you board. There’s no need to commit to a journey week in advance.
  • A stress-free journey
Travel during quieter periods with more space to relax or work.
  • Railcard compatible
Use your 1/3 railcard discount for even more savings.
  • Break of journey, stop off on the way
Unlike Advance tickets, most Off-Peak fares allow for a break of journey.  This allows you hop off at an intermediate station on the way to your destination and resume your trip later.

The Differences Between Off-Peak Ticket Types

  • Off-Peak Day Return
Valid for a return journey on the same calendar day.
  • Off-Peak Return
Your outward journey must be on the date shown, but you can travel back at any time within one calendar month.
  • When Can You Travel?
Off-Peak times can vary by route, but here is a simple guide for Chiltern Railways services on weekdays (weekends and Bank Holidays are always Off-Peak).
