Chiltern Railways’ Marathon Man

Date: 03 Mar 2008 10:35

Hedley Phillips, Performance Planning Manager at Chiltern Railways is running the 26.2 mile London Marathon for NSPCC and intends to finish in under four hours.

Hedley, aged 31 from Haddenham in Oxfordshire, will join the 676,743 people who have already crossed the finish line since it began in 1981. Hedley explains why he has taken on this challenge: “I’m running the marathon because it’s a perfect way to bring together my passion for running, my enjoyment of taking on new challenges, desire for a sense of achievement, while also raising money for the NSPCC.”

Hedley has been training by a combination of long runs, fast paced runs, and interval training in the gym. He started out running just 5 miles, but has steadily building this distance and his longest training run will be 22 miles, prior to running the full 26.2 miles on April 13th.

Hedley continues: “I’ve found that my colleagues at Chiltern Railways have been fantastic and very supportive. They have even been there supporting me on my training runs!

“Working in performance planning, it was difficult to resist the temptation to plan my marathon performance like a train timetable! All my training is built around finishing in under four hours, but what's most important is completing the 26.2 mile course, raising money for the NSPCC, and enjoying the great fun, carnival atmosphere of London marathon day!”

If you would like to donate money to Hedley the best way is through his Just Giving web page which can be found at www.justgiving.com/hedleyphillips.
