Chiltern Railways have just registered the highest ever annual punctuality rate of any train company within the industry. With a Public Performance Measure of 95.03% over the last 12 months, this is the first time that a train operating company has ever managed a punctuality rate of over 95% over a 12 month period.
This feat is made all the more impressive because by the fact that Chiltern has much stricter parameters for punctuality than many of its rivals. For a Chiltern train to be considered on time, it must arrive within five minutes of the advertised arrival time. This includes our long distance trains services such as our London to Birmingham, Kidderminster and Stratford-Upon-Avon services. Some other long distance operators to and from the West Midlands have a window of up to 10 minutes. London Midland is timed up to 5 mins Virgin and Cross Country are timed to 10.
Adrian Shooter, Chairman of Chiltern Railways said:
“We are all very proud of this landmark achievement. It demonstrates that it is possible to run a service which is both punctual and value for money. More and more people are using Chiltern Railways for business, commuting and leisure and our passenger satisfaction rate is currently at 90%. We listen to our passengers and work hard to give them the high quality service they demand.
He added
“This doesn’t mean that we will be getting complacent, far from it. We still have one train in 20 arriving behind schedule and so we will continue to work to improve this. Our goal now is not to just maintain our 95% punctuality rate; our goal is to get even better”
