Passengers are being warned to expect overcrowding on trains leaving and terminating at London Marylebone, because of the knock on effect of proposed strike action by London Underground staff. Chiltern Railways intends to run normal services, though because of overcrowding, passengers are advised to use alternative routes wherever possible.Adrian Shooter, Chairman of Chiltern Railways, said: “I would like to apologise to our passengers for any disruption to the service this evening and over the next few days, should the London Underground strike action continue. Passenger safety is our number one priority and I would like to assure passengers that we are doing everything possible to ensure that services run as normally as possible. While we will accommodate additional passengers where we can, we will not do anything to compromise the safe running of our railway.”
In order to maintain a safe service it may be necessary to close some stations at short notice because of overcrowding. Additionally, if trains are overcrowded they may not stop at all stations.
Rickmansworth station will be closed by London Underground until 10 am on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (should the strike action continue). As a result Chiltern Railways’ services will not be able to stop at the station before this time.
The proposed 3-day tube strike on the London Underground is expected to occur from 18.00 on Monday 3rd September until 18.00 on Thursday 6th September. Please see www.tfl.gov.uk for more information.
