Chiltern Railways presented £400 to the Stoke Mandeville Combined School in May.This money was partly raised through an Easter raffle that Chiltern Railways organised to win a giant Easter egg. The raffle took place at Aylesbury, Wendover, High Wycombe, Beaconsfield and Gerrards Cross and was a huge success raising a total of £189 for the school.
Chiltern Railways decided to match this kind generosity of their passengers and donated an extra £211.
Stoke Mandeville Combined School is a mixed primary school in Stoke Mandeville. It is a community school, which takes children from the age of 4 through to the age of 11. The school has an excellent hearing impaired department which has the capability of supporting deaf and hearing impaired children.
The cheque was presented by Debbie Osborne, Customer Service Manager for the South at Chiltern Railways. She said: “We are very pleased to be donating this money to the Stoke Mandeville Combined School.
“We decided on this charity because we like to help our local community and this is just one of the very deserving charities in our local area that we wanted to highlight.
“I am very proud to be presenting this cheque and I would like to thank everyone who brought a raffle ticket back in Easter.”
Mrs Price, one of the teachers of the deaf at Stoke Mandeville Combined School said: “We are very grateful for this kind donation and we are planning to buy lots of resources for the children.
“We are going to equip our new room in the school with books, sign videos and items to help the children learn about different areas of life.”
