Dave Hodgson, Marketing Director, Marketing Birmingham said: “Our two new shopping breaks take the stress out of shopping with everything being organised for you – they are the ultimate pampering treat which we’re launching just in time to give football widows respite from the World Cup.”
He continued: “There couldn’t be a better time to visit Birmingham for a shopping break. The city has more than 900 shops and is recognized as one of the finest shopping centres in Europe. When we ask visitors about shopping in Birmingham more than 60% rated the city as a great place for shopping - a bit of retail therapy is also the most popular activity when people visit the city.”
Marketing Birmingham’s joint promotion with Chiltern Railways means that from 23rd May to 23rd June ticket purchasers at key stations will receive details of two shopping breaks. David Whitley, Marketing Manager, Chiltern Railways said: "Birmingham has become one of the country's premier shopping locations, and we are delighted to be involved with this new initiative from Marketing Birmingham. With everything you need within walking distance, Birmingham is the perfect place to get to by train and a great place for a short break."
Marketing Birmingham’s breaks provide a feel good experience where everything is pre-arranged. The weekend breaks begin with a gentle stroll through Selfridges or Harvey Nichols with your own personal shopper. If that’s too much activity, kick back and relax while watching your personal clothes trainer do the legwork. Personal shoppers know every corner, line and offside inch of the store, to track down pieces you would never have known existed, all to fit your precise needs and budget.
After lunch in Selfridges Gallery Restaurant or Harvey Nichols Café, it’s back to the beauty counters for some team talks about your cosmetic needs. A number of these will have goodies for you to try out and take home. At Harvey Nichols, your day ends with a makeover and a Champagne and Truffles goody bag. At Selfridges, you will be treated to a style at Umberto Giannini’s hairdressers and a goody bag.
An overnight stay, with breakfast, is included at one of Birmingham’s leading city centre hotels – Hotel du Vin, Malmaison or the new Radisson SAS Birmingham. If the hard day’s play is not enough, an optional massage with a pedicure or manicure is available for the next day at your hotel.
Marketing Birmingham’s shopping breaks are available every Saturday from 10 June to 29 July 2006. Costs are from £115 per person for the one day shopping package including an overnight stay. The two day break, including the spa, starts from £215 per person.
