Chiltern Railways is starting work next week on a major project to create a transport interchange and large car park at High Wycombe train station.
A multi-storey car park will be constructed to increase the capacity at the station and a new transport interchange will enable buses to enter the station forecourt improving traffic management around the station and on to Amersham Hill.
Chad Collins, General Manager South of Chiltern Railways said: “This is going to change travel for commuters of High Wycombe station, making it easier to get to the station by bus or by car. This comes at a time when we are also currently completing a £250 million investment to give passengers a quicker commute, reducing the journey time from High Wycombe station to London Marylebone to just 25 minutes for the May 2011 timetable.”
The work on the interchange project will start on Tuesday, 31 August 2010 and there will be 80 spaces adjacent to the Goods Shed building out of use until March 2011when these paces will be relocated to the new Multi Storey Car Park. At this stage, all the spaces in the main car park will still be available, however there will be further reductions as the project progresses. Passengers will be kept informed of where the further reduction in spaces will be through passenger notice points and through the website.
Chad continues: “There is going to be disruption for our passengers who drive to the station and we are working with Wycombe District Council and Buckinghamshire County Council to provide alternative parking for our passengers at both Easton Street Multi storey and Cressex car parks. This redevelopment at the station will be a great benefit not only to commuters but also the people of High Wycombe.”
Parking at the Cressex car park is free but there is a charge to use the park and ride bus service. However, if you hold a monthly or longer Chiltern Railways season ticket the bus is free. Easton Street Car Park, which is right next to High Wycombe Station, will charge for passengers to park there.
In addition, passengers could drive to Beaconsfield station or Great Missenden station or make use of our Chiltern Carshare scheme where passengers find other people making the same journey as them on our free partner search.
