Greater Manchester has the fastest growing economy in the UK with inward investment second only to London. The city has a large banking sector and service sector but is perhaps better known for creative industries such as arts, music and communications.
The late music mogul and local hero, Tony Wilson, made it his stated aim to make Manchester a world capital for creative arts and, arguably, his vision has been realised.
A survey published in 2006 hailed Manchester as the best city in Britain to do business in. Key factors cited by the survey included location, transport links and quality of workforce with Manchester scoring highly in all.
