Mrs Warren's Profession at the Comedy Theatre, London

March 16th - June 19th, 2010

A new production of George Bernard Shaw's famous play Mrs Warren's profession will be shown at London's Comedy Theatre this spring.

Running from March 16th until June 19th, the play deals with how Mrs Warren financed her daughter's education.

Vivie has enjoyed a comfortable life, an Oxford education and a generous monthly allowance. But one evening, her mother appears in the company of Sir George Croft, a sinister man which encourages Vivie to investigate her mother's career.

The venue said: "Is it conceivable that all this privilege and respectability has been financed from the proceeds of the oldest profession?"

The play, which was written in 1894 but banned from performance until the 1920s, "lays bare the rampant hypocrisy of Victorian society and its constrained morals," the Comedy Theatre added.

Felicity Kendal takes on the role of Mrs Warren while Michael Rudman directs.

Tickets for Mrs Warren's Profession cost from £37.50 and are available online.
