May 20th - June 15th, 2008
New work by the artist Phillip Warnell will be on display at the Leamington Spa Art Gallery and Museum until June 15th.
Introspection - Extramission will consider the interaction between the body and invisible phenomena using photographs, objects, light boxes, projection and other media.
Mr Warnell's inspiration came from the 'girl with the X-ray eyes'; a Russian girl who claimed she could see through people and identify illnesses of those who appeared on the ITV programme This Morning.
Other phenomena explored include the myths surrounding calculus stones and the work of Austrian physician Franz Mesmer, who came up with the theory of animal magnetism.
The complex relationships between live performance and the meditated image are explored by the artist with detail, humour, scrutiny and an attention to details.
In one exhibit, the artist displays images of his own insides, taken when he ingested a microscopic camera.
In a review, the Guardian said Mr Warnell's project encompasses both "amazement and intrigue".
Those whose imagination is captured by the project can see Mr Warnell's work by getting to the spa town on Chiltern Railways.
