Don Carlo in London

June 06th - July 03rd, 2008

Verdi's operatic interpretation of Schiller's classic novel Don Carlo sees a new production at the Royal Opera House (ROH) in June.

It will be the first time the opera has been performed at Covent Garden in almost 20 years.

Conducted by the acclaimed Antonio Pappano, the cast is headed by Rolando Villazon in the title role.

Pappano's last new production of the season, Don Carlo also stars Marina Poplavskaya as Elisabetta di Valois and Simon Keenlyside as Rodrigo.

Set in 16th century Spain, the opera brings to light the tension between personal emotion and political ambition as allegiances are tested during the inquisition.

The (ROH) describes the event as "drama of power and psychology on an epic scale."

For those wishing to attend, tickets are available via the ROH, although visitors are advised that reservations are limited to two per person to ensure that as many as people as possible have a chance to see the eagerly anticipated production.

Don Carlo opens on June 6th, with a final performance on July 3rd.
