The Merchant of Venice at Stratford-Upon-Avon
Information Updated: 01-05-2008
One of the Bard's most notorious plays is being staged at Stratford-Upon-Avon as the Royal Shakespeare Company performs The Merchant of Venice at the Courthouse Theatre this summer.
Exploring themes of love, law and racism, the play is considered by many to have been ahead of its time in addressing societal issues which still affect modern audiences.
It follows a story of friendship, debt and a ghastly promise to repay a defaulted loan with a pound of flesh.
"When a bride is won with an enemy's money, the debt must be repaid. As bonds of friendship are put to the test, either love or hatred could triumph in Shakespeare's unsettling comedy," producers state.
Tickets for this event cost between £10 and £38 and they can be booked by calling 0844 800 1110.
Reaching the venue is easy, thanks to Chiltern Railways, which travels throughout London and the Midlands and stops at the Stratford-Upon-Avon station, which is a short walk from the venue.
