Welcome to Warwickshire

Warwickshire is inextricably linked with Shakespeare. Not for nothing are parts of the county billed as Shakespeare Country! But there is more to Warwickshire than its most famous son.

Visitors to Warwickshire can enjoy castles, historic houses, take part in high adrenaline adventure sports or simply relax in a luxury hotel or enjoy a pint of locally brewed beer.

The magnificent Warwick Castle is one of the country’s most popular tourist attractions with a packed calendar of events and lots of hands on fun.

Legend has it that the first fortification on the site was erected by Ethelfleda, daughter of Alfred the Great. The current castle began in Norman times and was developed over the following centuries and is now an exciting place for the whole family to spend a day exploring.

Compton Verney is an award winning art gallery housed in a Grade 1 listed Robert Adam mansion surrounded by parkland landscaped by ‘Capability’ Brown. It opened in 2004 and is home to a growing collection of nationally and internationally significant works of art from around the world. There is also a changing programme of exhibitions, special events, workshops, talks and tours.

Royal Leamington Spa is an elegant town in south Warwickshire. Famed for its Georgian and Victorian architecture and gardens it is popular with both day trippers and those who want to stay a little longer to enjoy the town and surrounding area.

While Leamington Spa’s days as one of the country’s great spa towns are long over, the historic buildings have been well preserved and visitors can still enjoy the historic sights and take in the relaxing and enchanting gardens.

The Royal Pump Rooms now feature a library, museum and art gallery and the tourist information centre as well as a tap where visitors can sample the spa water, if they dare!

The River Leam is at the heart of the town and at the Leam Boat Centre, visitors can hire kayaks, rowing boats and motor boats to take a leisurely cruise and while away the afternoon messing about on the river.

Today the town has a lively and exciting mix of shops, restaurants and bars while still keeping its historic charm and traditions.
